The Barber and the Rifleman by Les Slesnick.
Take a look at the rest of his work here. He used to come to the Magic City Art Connection, a big art fair in Birmingham, but the last few times I’ve been I haven’t seen him there.
These are the most insane computer graphics I’ve ever seen. And I live on the Internet!
Agreed!

“On January 7th, 1942, one month after Pearl Harbor, T.W. Smith, Jr., the owner of the Sun Rubber Company, and his designer, Dietrich Rempel, with Walt Disney’s approval introduced a protective mask for children.” Read more here.
There is something kind of delightful about this — its practical use (at the time), its appeal to children, its kitschiness combined with a horror film kind of eeriness, the fact that it is now a collector’s item.
Thanks for sending this Dan!
Opening Reception: Wednesday, July 8, 2009 6:00 - 8:00pm
W 27th between Broadway & 6th
I haven’t seen the work yet because we’re installing it tomorrow, but I know that there’s work from Amos Paul Kennedy (Alabama’s very own), as well as some work by my book arts prof from UA.
Should be a great show with plenty of delicious free cheese and refreshments. If you’re in New York you should stop by and take a peek. Click through for more info about artist talks and the opening.

Just remembered that the Center for Book Arts has a blog and a flickr account. Occasionally I pop up doing interny things. Today we took down artwork in the gallery, painted (still have it all over me, even after showering), and tomorrow we’ll be putting up the new show.
Glynnis, is it true that people in New York always burst out singing about… things?
Joachim, I have been singing about book making since I got here. What do you think we all do on our long commutes to the city? I mean, why else would they put all those poles in the trains if not for set building and dance numbers?

Thinking about making one of these to store other things like letters, postcards, etc.
Hi, I'm Glynnis.
I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. I recently lived and studied in Paris, France. This summer I'm living in New York City and working in a book arts studio.
My photos and videos are scattered across the web. Sometimes I write about travel and the places I visit.
You can email me at my gmail address, glynnish. Don't hesitate to say hello.
If you click on my face up there, it'll take you back to the main tumblog. You can visit the photo's flickr page here.
