And so it is with luck - unlucky people miss chance opportunities because they are too focused on looking for something else. They go to parties intent on finding their perfect partner and so miss opportunities to make good friends. They look through newspapers determined to find certain types of job advertisements and as a result miss other types of jobs. Lucky people are more relaxed and open, and therefore see what is there rather than just what they are looking for.

My research revealed that lucky people generate good fortune via four basic principles. They are skilled at creating and noticing chance opportunities, make lucky decisions by listening to their intuition, create self-fulfilling prophesies via positive expectations, and adopt a resilient attitude that transforms bad luck into good.

If you ever wondered what a bug bite the size of a baseball might look like, I’m here to tell you that it looks like this.  Also, this is what it looks like when you inject me with horse.  I had a bad reaction to my allergy shot yesterday (doctor says they may have hit a blood vessel, which makes the reaction worse than usual).  It still looks like this today, it’s just bigger and hot to the touch.  I get to do it all over again next week, too!

For Carolyn.  Get your ass over there and get me a book!  You can ask him if he rides the 21 bus in Paris, too — I’m still wondering if it was him I saw that one time.

Crappy Taxidermy makes it seriously difficult not to reblog at least once a day…

I say this every time, but this might be my favorite yet.  Whoa.

At the Student Health Center waiting to get an allergy shot, sucking up wifi while I can.  No internet in the new apartment yet.

You’ve got to love fluorescent lighting.  No matter what color you’re wearing it’s always more unsettlingly vibrant under fluorescent light.  Good thing I’m wearing lime and mustard today.  The color combo is especially “HI! LOOK AT ME!” in quality, even without the Health Center’s help.

Hello, my name is Glynnis.  I have messy hair and I like to wear loud colors.

I recently received this photo and message from Joachim, my friend from Paris who is traveling around the world.  He writes:

Joyeux anniversaire Glynnis :)

-Joachim

PS: of course, I wrote in french. How will you do in Paris if you come
back not knowing how to speak anymore?

Four! Pronged! Breakfast Attack!

This morning before moving into my new apartment (finally mold free!), Alex, Logan, and I made Breakfast, which is to say we had cheese grits (cheddar + asagio), turkey bacon, biscuits, and raspberries.  We did things right.  We each had four beverages: coffee, tea, orange juice, and apple juice.  Note the proper arrangement of beverages, so that cold hands may be warmed at either end.

Fall weather is finally here, last night some fifteen-year-olds in a band playing a house party called me “sweetheart” and dedicated a song to me, breakfast was delicious, Alex and Logan make excellent companions when it comes to acting like five-year-olds, and now I live in a real, actual, non-pathogen-saturated residence.  It was a beautiful weekend, friends.

I won’t have real internet until Friday, but there seem to be a few open networks nearby, so maybe you won’t notice.
